PROSEPECTS OF A WOMAN COCKTAIL

Cocktail recipe courtesy of photographer & mixologist, Risa James and crafted especially for “Cocktails & Conversations” featuring Wendy Voorsanger’s book Prospects of a Woman.

Ingredients:

- Legado rye whiskey

- 2 fresh lemons

- 1 bunch fresh sage

- California sage honey (see below)

- Angostura bitters

Prep California sage honey about an hour in advance:

  • Heat 1/2 cup water with 1/2 cup granulated or turbinado sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat.

  • Add several fresh sage leaves.

  • Stir until sugar dissolves.

  • Just before the mixture boils, remove from heat and allow sage to steep for 30 minutes.

  • Strain out sage leaves and store cooled syrup in a glass bottle in the refrigerator.

Mix it up:

  • Slice the lemon in half, then slice off a wheel from the fattest part of the lemon.

  • Juice the remaining lemon to yield 1 oz. of fresh juice.

  • In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz. Legado whiskey, 1 oz. fresh lemon juice, 1/2 oz. sage simple syrup, 1 generous teaspoon of sage honey, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

  • Fill the shaker 3/4 full with ice and shake 20 seconds.

  • Add a large ice cube to a rocks glass.

  • Strain shaker contents into glass.

  • Garnish with the lemon wheel and a sprig or leaf of fresh sage.


Legado Smash

Ingredients:

Shake, Double strain

- Rocks glass/ Ice (pebble if possible)

- 1 1/2 Ounce Legado

- 1/2 Ounce Lime juice

- 1/2 Ounce wild berry puree

- Top with Ginger beer

- Add sliced berries

Garnish: Sliced Raspberries, Blackberries

Legado Mule

Ingredients:

Add Legado and lime juice to a Moscow Mule mug. Fill the mug with ice and top with ginger beer. Add mint sprig for Garnish.

- 2 Ounces Legado

- 1/2 Ounce Lime juice

- Ginger beer to top

Garnish: Mint sprig


Cranberry Hot Toddy

Ingredients:

Combine all ingredients with the exception of the garnishes into a microwavable mug. Microwave for 1 minute intervals until ready. Stir cocktail with cinnamon stick.

- 4 Ounces Cranberry juice

- 2 Ounces Legado

- 1/2 TBSP Honey

- 1 TBSP Lemon juice

Garnish: Cinnamon stick, Lemon slice (thin)

Apple Legado Sidecar

Tastes like Fall in a glass. Shake and strain into a Coupe or Martini glass.

Ingredients:

- 2 Ounces of Apple Cider

- 1 Ounce Cognac

- 2 Ounces Legado

- 1/2 Ounce Cointreau

- Splash Lemon juice

Garnish: Apple slice (thin)


PUMPKIN OLD FASHIONED

The pumpkin puree adds a rich fall twist to this classic cocktail. Shake and double strain and pour. Garnish with an orange wheel and Rosemary sprig

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Ounce Legado

  • 1/2 Ounce Gran Marnier 

  • 2 TBSP Pumpkin puree

  • Dash of Aromatic Bitters (Orange, if possible)

  • Rocks in glass

Old Fashioned

As classic as classic gets, this whiskey-based drink can be found in the hand of legends far and wide. A little spicy, sweet, and full of flavor, give this a try. You won’t regret it. Garnish with 1 orange peel.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ part Legado Whiskey

  • ½ parts simple syrup

  • 2 dashes angostura bitters


Mint Julep

Refreshingly minty at happy hour or a night on the town, enjoy a mint julep when in great company.

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Legado Whiskey

  • 1⁄4 parts simple syrup

  • 8 Mint leaves

Hot Toddy

A cold winter’s night is always made better by some heat. A Hot Toddy goes great with holiday cheer or a good breeze. 

  • 1 part Legado Whiskey

  • 1 tablespoon mild honey

  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

  • 1/4 cup boiling-hot water
